We normally try to cover 3 of our wine regions that are in close proximity and try to do a wine tasting in each town or area. These are the wine regions of Paarl, Franschhoek and the ever popular and historical Stellenbosch. We usually start off our Cape Town wine tours in Stellenbosch with a proper wine cellar tour. This wine cellar tour will last for about an hour which will include the first wine tasting of the day conducted by an experienced worker of this cellar.
After the wine cellar tour and first wine tasting, our Cape Town wine tours take us over the beautiful Helshoogte Mountain pass towards Franschhoek. Free time will be available to explore the beautiful and historical main road of Franschhoek where lunch stops and shopping options are readily available. We will visit a farm in this area for another tasting and give you some insight on the historical background of the French Huguenots that fled the religious and political issues in France and came to Cape Town in 1688.
On Route to Paarl we will drive past the prison where Nelson Mandela was released in Cape Town after years of imprisonment including 21 years on Robben Island. We cover a bit of this history as well as stopping for a photo opportunity of the statue of this big and very popular statesman. In Paarl we will end our day with a final wine taste at one of its farms. Here we try to mix it up and include possible cheese tastings, beer and chocolate, depending on availability.
An important note:
The above Cape Town wine tours itinerary should be used as a guideline only. In extreme, busy periods some wine farms might be full or overcrowded in which case we will make use of another option. We have around 500 wine farms to choose from and we can always customize our wine tours to accommodate some of your personal requests during private Cape Town wine tours.
