Once inside the Nature Reserve we take a leisurely ride up to Cape Point for photo opportunities
and a walk to the lighthouse itself.

After getting some refreshments / lunch we head downhill to the Cape of Good Hope for pictures
and then it’s a short stop at the Cape Point Ostrich Farm before our onward cycle to Simon’s

Possibly the most Googled Hiking Route on Table Mountain, the India Venster hike tackles Table Mountain front (North) face starting from Table Mountain Aerial Cable Station. A 3-4 hour hiking route suitable for any averagely fit person not to afraid of heights - there are some exposed sections mid-height which require elementary rock-scrambling / climbing and is ideal for a guided hike on Table Mountain for this reason. Come hike India Venster with us!

Not your average hike! The hike is a varied offering of steep, even scrambling sections as well as some winding almost flat sections. India Venster starts up the North Face of Table Mountain and weaves through the rockbands to a point 100m directly below the upper Cable Station. At this point the path darts around onto the West face and traverses the length of Fountain Ledge overlooking Camps bay and from there joins the final section of Platteklip Gorge up the last section to the summit.

We have daily hikes leaving shortly after sunrise to avoid the sun-baked slopes which catch the sun an hour or two after sunrise due to their Northern aspect - by this time we aim to be deep in the gully and still in shadow. If the cable car is running, we take the 5min ride down, however it is important to be prepared to walk back down in the even that the car is closed due to strong winds.

Grade: 2

Ease: Easy-Moderate

Integral Ascent:
A traditional "ascent" of Table Mountain North Face - from bottom to top. This gives a great sense of having climbed Table Mountain and involves hiking then rock-climbing then some more hiking and then finish with more rock climbing. Total height-gain c650m with 8 pitches of rock climbing. We then descend via Cable Car, if it is running, else a 1hour walk down. An early start is required to avoid the sun.

Jacobs Ladder:
THE classic on Table Mountain. Clean and sustained climbing with a very airy travese in the middle, guaranteed to make you feel high. Simply exquisite, 'Jacobs' is not for those with a fear of heights. The best way to look down on the Camps Bay and Clifton dwellers, occassionally used to finish the integral ascent. Ideal for people who have climbed outdoors at the grade.

Arrow Final:
The original finalè to the integral ascent, this route climbs the striking narrow face directly below the top cable-station. Often accessed via abseil this route offers suberb postion and easy climbing with views from the Atlantic all the way to false bay and is ideal for beginners. Remarkable for the grade!

Atlantic Crag:
Perched high above the Western Seabord, this superb route weaves it's way around some of the most impressive (and difficult) cliffs of the mountian, and gives a sense of big, airy climbing at a very moderate grade. Oft used to finish the integral ascent. Ideal for the beginner or first outdoor climb.

The Cederberg Mountain Range (read wikipedia)is a wilderness mountain range home to some of the finest single & multi-pitch climbing in South Africa. The summits top 2000m above sea level and the climbing is found on most aspects. This gives ideal locations to hide from the summer heat by hiking to elevation and then climbing on the shady faces or, in winter to climb in the sun at lower elevations. The climbing is on featured sandstone set on the Western edge of The Koue Bokkeveld - if you are looking for a feeling of wide open space, The Cederberg will give you that.

Being 250km from Cape Town, this is at least a 2-day trip. A variety of options exist to cater for all skill levels and most weather conditions. Generally the options are
One day Sport Climbing + one day multi-pitch trad climbing with campsite camping or cabins
One day Sport Climbing + 2 days multi-pitch trad climbing sleeping 2 nights in natural caves! This option requires a high level of hiking fitness as the hiking to the caves is strenuous and requires us to carry ALL our equipment - sleeping, cooking (plus food), climbing equipment - 4-5 hours. As this is at altitude (2000m asl) this is NOT a winter option. Note: this option is not suitable for kids. Being a ways from any amenities, full hiking and climbing gear (good selection of clothing and food/water) needs to be carried to as well as UP the route.

Cederberg Mountain Range Climb

Both of the above can accomodate begginers, intermediates, kids and adults alike.

The oldest, easiest hike up the centre cleft of Table Mountain North face. The hike follows a steep but well maintained foot path and crests the table-top midway between the cable car and McClears Beacon - the highest point on Table Mountain.

Guided Hiking on the oldest, easiest hike on Table Mountain. The route follows the centre cleft of Table Mountain North face ascending a steep but well maintained foot path and crests the table-top midway between the cable car and McClears Beacon - the highest point on Table Mountain. Hikes are graded for their technical difficulty and the grade is not necessarily an indication of how exposed or strenuous they are. Each hike does carry an indication for it's suitability level - easy | moderate | strenuous as well as an exposure rating out of three.

Modelled on the famous Puffer run from Cape Point to V&A Waterfront which is a yearly event limited to 180 participants held over one day.
The PUFF DADDY aims to take the PUFFER...and make it friendly. This is a coached / guided event held 20-22 April 2018 and is designed to provide a learning or introductory platform for runners wanting to make the step(s) up to something like PUFFER. To this end we break the course into thirds, and limit the group-size to 7, allowing us to manage your experience.

Further we eschew many of the road/road-like sections often taken during the official event (as they help you WIN) and, as this is not a race, we explore the more wild trails between Cape Point and the CBD.

In a Nutshell
Day 1: Friday 20 April: Cape Point Nature Reserve

Start at the Southern most point of the Cape Peninsula. A relatively short but incredibly scenic day with spectacular views of the Indian and Atlantic Oceans and False Bay.

14km and 750m of ascent.

Day 2: Saturday 21 April: Kalk Bay to Hout Bay

img_5620Starting in the quaint fishing village of Kalk Bay we ascend the mountain via trails used by fishermen. The plant life is spectacular and varied on this day offering lush forests and open fynbos stretches of very runnable terrain before descending to the suburb of Hout Bay. The descent is steep but oh so much fun.

18km and 1240m ascent.

Hout Bay has some great fish and chips for the best recovery nutirition.
A boat ride to seal island is an optional extra for the afternoon activities.

Day 3: Sunday 22 April: Hout Bay to Signal Hill above Cape Town

A steep climb up above Suikerbossie to the top of Table Mountain followed by some fantastic running along the Twelve Apostles. Passing Grootkop we run through spectacular rock formations. We descend after seeing the dams on top of the mountain. The final kilometers are past Lion’s Head with amazing views across the city and Robben Island.

18km and 1200m ascent.

Requirements and Provisions
You will need to provide your own trail running apparel and appropriate footwear and a hydration bag that can carry 1.5l of water and some snacks.
We will discuss specifics with you closer to the time.
We provide transport from the finish to the start of every day’s run.

The Western Cape has some very inviting-looking Alpine walls. A generally easy approach (though often overgrown) these routes are typically Alpine in nature:
Complex route-finding
The possibility of loose rock
An element of remoteness (making retreat or rescue / self-rescue a serious undertaking) - read my account here
coupled with, often, long descents
These undertakings are for experienced multi-pitch trad climbers, preferably with Alpine experience.

Du Toits Kloof
An hour's drive from Cape Town the national road snakes through Du Toits Kloof. Big Alpine walls on either side are dramatic, and inviting. Generally a long-day affair these routes involve 3 hour approaches followed by 5-8 hours of multi-pitch climbing and then a 3 hour descent.
Various grade options - 14-21 | 4b-6a+ | 5.7-5.11
Klein Winterhoek
The Klein Winterhoek Frontal is iconic. Bold and prominent (visible from town), this classic involves an afternoon walk-in followed by a bivi and then full day climb. Read an account here
Grade 16 | 5a | 5.8
Hangklip
The prominent peak behind the Hamlet of Hangklip on the Eastern Seaboard of the Cape Peninsular is not, technically, a country route. However it certainly shares some aspects of country-routing
big, complex and complicated to retreat
The pro's
short and easy (by country route standards) approach
easy grade (14 | 4b | 5.7)
easy descent

Money Matters

SOUTH AFRICA

The official currency of South Africa is the Rand (ZAR). The best way to manage your money in Africa is a mixture of cash and an ATM card (best to have both Visa and MasterCard).

Cash

Cash is easily changed at exchange bureaus and they generally offer the best rates. ***PLEASE NOTE: MANY BUSINESSES AND BANKS IN AFRICA DO NOT ACCEPT US DOLLAR NOTES OLDER THAN 2006. IF YOU ARE BRINGING USD, WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND LARGE BILLS IN GOOD CONDITION, 2006 SERIES ONWARDS ONLY. ANY OLD OR DAMAGED NOTES MAY NOT BE ACCEPTED. ***

The South African Rand can also be used widely in countries of Southern Africa. When changing money, only use reputable authorized money exchange vendors and never anyone on the street. There are many instances of traveler’s being given counterfeit notes or being tricked when money is being counted out.

Visa & Master Card

With ATMs being increasingly available in the many major towns and cities and even some campsites, credit or debit cards are a convenient way to access money. Throughout Africa, cards with the Visa logo are most readily recognized, although MasterCard is also accepted in most places. A charge is made for each international transaction - please check with your bank how much this fee will be. Check with your bank before leaving home that your card can be used as a debit card in Africa. You may also want to notify your bank that you are visiting Africa as it's not unknown for banks to freeze cards which show sudden transactions in other countries. At “A Team Tours” we are serious about your safety and strongly advise that you follow the following rules when drawing cash at an ATM:

Take someone with you when you want to withdraw money from an ATM
Withdraw money inside a bank if possible
Do not withdraw large sums of money from an ATM – rather use your credit card
NEVER ACCEPT HELP FROM A STRANGER, not even
When it comes to money matters on the trip, every traveler is a little different. You know your spending habits better than we do, so please budget a sensible amount for things like meals not included, drinks, shopping, optional activities and laundry. It's always better to bring a little more than you think you'll need.

Also make sure you've read your trip details thoroughly so you know what's included in the trip price and what isn't. This should make budgeting a little easier. You'll find this info in the Inclusions section of your Essential Trip Information (that's this document).

Emergency Funds

Please also make sure you have access to an additional US$500, to be used when unforeseen incidents or circumstances outside our control (e.g. a natural disaster, civil unrest, strike action or an outbreak of bird flu) necessitate a change to our planned route.

For general enquiries or questions about your booking, please visit us at www.capeytours.co.za/contact-us While we always endeavor to provide the best possible holiday experience, due to the nature of travel and the areas we visit sometimes things can and do go wrong. Should any issue occur while you are on your trip, it is imperative that you discuss this with your group leader or our local representative straight away so that they can do their best to rectify the problem and save any potential negative impact on the rest of your trip. We recognize that there may be times when your group tour leader/guide may not be able to resolve a situation to your satisfaction - if this is the case, please ask the leader to speak to their direct manager? You may also choose to provide details in your online feedback, which we ask you to complete within 30 days of the end of your trip. But we do ask you to be aware that it is very difficult for us to provide any practical help after the trip is complete.
Visas

Visas are the responsibility of the individual traveler. Entry requirements can change at any time, so it's important that you check for the latest information. Please visit the relevant consular website of the country or countries you’re visiting for detailed and up-to-date visa information specific to your nationality. Your consultant will also be happy to point you in the right direction with acquiring visas. Visas can take several weeks to process, so familiarize yourself with any requirements as soon as you have booked your trip to allow for processing time.

SOUTH AFRICA:

Australia: No visa required Belgium: No visa required Canada: No visa required Germany: No visa required Ireland: No visa required Netherlands: No visa required New Zealand: No visa required Switzerland: No visa required United Kingdom: No visa required USA: No visa required
Citizens of the above countries do not need visas to visit South Africa as a tourist for up to three months. Citizens of all countries should check with the relevant consulates as to whether a visa is required.

Entry Requirements - Passports

Please note that non-machine readable passports are no longer accepted by South African immigration. All visitors to South Africa must have a machine readable travel document (e-passport). Failure to present an e-passport will result in denied entry. Passengers with a valid visa issued in a non-machine readable passport will be handled on a case by case basis, but a fine will still be applicable.

Entry Requirements - Travelling with Children

A new immigration regulation came into effect on 1st October 2014, whereby parents will need to produce an original unabridged birth certificate if they are travelling with children. The new regulation has been put in place to protect children from being abducted, kidnapped and preventing child trafficking. The Department of Home Affairs has urged all parents to apply for unabridged certificates for their children. Additionally, further documentation including permission to travel, may be required if only one parent is travelling. These are requirements of the immigration regulation 6 (12)(a) for parents travelling with children. So just to be on the safe side, more information can be found here: http://www.dha.gov.za/index.php/civic-services/traveling-with-children

We recommend traveler’s check requirements before travel as they can change.

What to Take

What you need to bring will vary according to the trip style you have chosen, the tour you have chosen and when you are travelling. Generally speaking, you should pack as lightly as possible.

Most traveler’s carry their luggage in a backpack, although an overnight bag with a shoulder strap would suffice if you travel lightly. Smaller bags or backpacks with wheels are convenient although we recommend your bag has carry straps. You'll also need a day pack/bag to carry water and a camera etc. for day trips.

Water Bottle

Consider bringing your own water bottle to refill along the way. We recommend at least a 1.5litre capacity. The sale of bottled water contributes to an enormous environmental problem around the world. In addition to the water in bottles, the production of a 1 litre plastic bottle takes 2 litres of water and 200ml of oil. A large proportion end up in limited landfill or discarded in waterways and natural environments.

Health

All Capey Tours traveler’s need to be in good physical health in order to participate fully on this trip. When selecting your trip please make sure you have read through the itinerary carefully and assess your ability to cope with our style of travel. Please note that if, in the opinion of our group leader or local guide, any traveler is unable to complete the itinerary without undue risk to themselves and/or the rest of the group, Capey Tours reserves the right to exclude them from all or part of a trip without refund.

You should consult your doctor for up-to-date medical travel information or for any necessary vaccinations and anti-malarial requirements before departure. We recommend that you carry a first aid kit as well as any personal medical requirements (including a spare pair of glasses) as they may not easily be obtained at the locations on this trip. For legal reasons our leaders and guides are prohibited from administering any type of drugs including headache tablets and antibiotics. Please ensure that you are adequately prepared.

Yellow Fever

A valid international certificate of vaccination against Yellow Fever is required in many countries. You may need to present this on arrival at the airport or border crossing. Some countries will refuse entry if you are unable to present your certificate. It's also quite common for your home country to request a Yellow Fever certificate on your arrival back home.

It is your responsibility to check with your doctor well in advance of leaving home about the Yellow Fever requirements for the countries you'll be visiting.

Travel Insurance

span style="font-size: 14pt;">Travel insurance is compulsory for all our trips. We require that, at a minimum, you are covered for medical expenses including emergency repatriation. We strongly recommend that the policy also covers personal liability, cancellation, curtailment and loss of luggage and personal effects.

When travelling on a trip, you won't be permitted to join the group until evidence of travel insurance and the insurance company's 24-hour emergency contact number has been seen by your leader.

If you have credit card insurance your group leader will require details of the participating insurer/underwriter, the level of coverage, policy number and emergency contact number rather than the bank's name and credit card details. Please contact your bank for these details prior to arriving in-country.

A Couple Of Rules

Illegal drugs will not be tolerated on our trips. Possessing or using drugs not only contravenes the laws of the land, but also puts the rest of the group at risk. Smoking marijuana and opium is a part of local culture in some parts of the world but is not acceptable for Capey Tours traveler’s. Capey Tours philosophy of travel is one of respect towards everyone we encounter and in particular, the local people who make our destinations such special places. The exploitation of prostitutes is completely contrary to this philosophy. Our group leader has the right to expel any member of the group if drugs are found in their possession or if they use prostitutes.

Everyone has the right to feel safe and secure on their trip. We don’t tolerate any form of sexual harassment at Capey Tours, either between passengers or involving our leaders or local operators. Sexual relationships (consensual or otherwise) between a leader and a passenger are unacceptable. If you ever feel another person is behaving inappropriately, please inform us immediately by contacting the emergency contact number detailed in these trip notes.

Responsible Travel

We believe strongly in low impact or rather positive impact tourism. Broadly speaking this means that we try to minimize the negative aspects of tourism on the local cultures and environments that we visit and highlight the positive aspects.

Safety

At Capey Tours we take your safety very seriously. Like any other country in the world, South Africa also has “hotspots” where it’s not safe to go. In order to keep you safe at all times, we have listed a few pointers below that will go a long way in ensuring your safety in various situations:

ATM’s

Take someone with you when you want to withdraw money from an ATM
Withdraw money inside a bank if possible
Do not withdraw large sums of money from an ATM – rather use your credit card
NEVER ACCEPT HELP FROM A STRANGER, not even someone who looks like a security guard. If your card should get stuck or be “swallowed” by the machine, stay there and send you companion to look for help or phone the number on the machine
In the Car
Plan your route in advance
Keep your car doors locked at all times and windows closed
Lock valuable items in the boot
At night, park in well-lit areas
Never pick up strangers or hitch-hikers
If in any doubt about the safety of an area, phone a police station for advice
At the Hotel
Never leave your luggage unattended
Store valuables in the hotel’s safe-deposit box
Keep your room locked, whether you’re in it or not
If someone knocks, check who it is first before opening the door
Hand the keys in at reception whenever you leave the hotel

In the Street

Avoid ostentatious displays of expensive jewelry, cameras and other valuables
Don’t carry large sums of money around
At night, steer clear of dark, isolated areas
It’s better to explore in groups and stick to well-lit, busy streets
A policeman or traffic officer will be glad to direct you if you get lost
If you want to call a taxi, your hotel or the nearest tourist information office will recommend a reliable service
Feedback

After your travels, we want to hear from you! We rely on your feedback. We read it carefully. Feedback helps us understand what we are doing well and what we could be doing better. It allows us to make improvements for future traveler’s.

Emergency Contact

In the case of a genuine crisis or emergency, A Team Tours representatives can be reached on +27 810188912 (24/7).

The difference between one company and another is the employees that work for them. How well your company succeeds is directly related to the performance of your employees. If your employees are motivated and passionate about their job, it will be apparent in company profits.

Usually the first contact a perspective client has with your company is with your employees. Whether they call on the telephone or walk into your business, they will more than likely see your employees and not you, the owner. Those first impressions can make the difference between the person walking out the door or you having a loyal customer. It is vital that your employees know their importance even at the most menial positions.

Excellent teamwork is also most important to get the best productivity out of your staff. If your workplace has an atmosphere of cooperation instead of competition, much more will get accomplished. Happy employees make the best employees and if they enjoy coming to work, it will show in their productivity.

No one likes to spend eight hours in a place with people they can’t stand so the better your staff gets along, the better for your business. There is something you can do to help your employees feel valued at their job and enjoy coming to work with people they are close to. Book corporate team outings with us!

You and your staff will be treated to an unique adventure of a lifetime while enjoying the wonderful technology behind a Segway . Try one of our excursions and you will be reaping the benefits for years to come.
We see it all the time a group of people will go through some kind of adversity or challenge together and, after helping each other through it, develop great respect and trust in one another.

That is what you are hoping for when your company is standing in front of their Segway machines. Each of your employees will be put to the test and will find out what they are made of exploring this new technology and mastering riding a Segway. They will push each other and get over fears together as they complete the training session and go out on the tour.

Your entire work force will become empowered with newfound strength and determination they never knew they had. This will never leave them as they return home. You have done your staff a great service by giving them the opportunity to grow from the inside out. They will return home energized, excited and bursting with motivation to be the best teammate for their new lifelong friends and ready to give you 110% for the business.

Corporate team outings like this have endless rewards for each of your employees as well as your business. As an owner you will be amazed at the changes in your employees and the increase in their productivity.

Your return on investment will be seen on a daily basis as the success of your business increases due to your staff.

Don’t miss out on the chance to do this for your workers and do this for your business.

Sandboarding is a boarding Sport similar to the popular Snowboarding.

It is an awesome recreational activity that takes place on our Large +-230 meter High Sand Dune rather than on a snow covered mountain. This boarding sport has adherents throughout the world, most prevalently in desert areas or coastal areas with beach dunes.

We are very fortunate to have one of Africas Highest Commercial Sand Boarding Dunes a stone throw away from Cape Town in BettysBay.
Our guides/s will provide you with training and safety on the dune. Sandboarding is a wonderful activity as its both fun and extreme (depending on your skills as you progress) Once our training session has finished we will start off with a smaller section of the dune. We will progress Higher and Higher up on the dune as your skills improve.

The norm is to stand on the Sandboard as you descend down the dune but if you prefer to rather sit we will show you the ropes as this is also a lot of fun if your balance seems to get the better of you.
Sandboarding is ideal for individuals but also extremely entertaining for larger groups and teambuilding options.

What to wear and bring:
Bottled water is a must as you will get thirsty.
Sunscreen – in summer!!
Comfortable clothes and shoes.
Each sand boarding session is +- 2 Hours long

Please note – rain does affect our sandboarding. Please contact us the morning of your booking to ensure that the dune is still operational. If in the event of bad weather we will refund or move your booking to a more suitable date. The choice is yours…
