Cape Town has one of the best locations to see the Sunset from the Sea. With the Atlantic Ocean stretching away from the majestic Table Mountain range, this is certainly a ‘must do’ cruise for locals and tourists alike. Toast the setting sun from the deck of a luxury vessel with a complimentary glass of local sparkling wine. (A glass per guest, or a bottle for a couple.) A cash bar is available for other drink requirements, including soft drinks. Kids are welcome, and have a special price option, but remember it is an adult cruise so no alcohol served to minors! Cape Town weather can change 5 times a day, so our route from the harbour is not always predictable; the two options below are merely a guide. But no matter which direction we take be assured of a spectacular cruise.

SUNSET UNDER SAIL
The sailboats Esperance and Serenity One follow the wind for this cruise. They do not offer a specific destination for this reason; you will be advised before departure as to the expected direction. The typical Cape Town summer wind blows from the south-east; the boats use the motors to leave the harbour and then they sail across Table Bay towards Milnerton lighthouse, returning to the protection of Granger Bay in the lee of Table Mountain to watch the sunset, and then motor back to the Waterfront.

In winter months with the northwester prevalent, the direction taken will be toward the Clifton Coastline, or the Robben Island Coastline, also returning to Granger Bay. The wind and sea conditions change daily so the routing and style of the trip also change to meet the conditions; the skipper and crew will give you the best possible adventure.

SUNSET ON A MOTOR VESSEL
The Motor Vessels Sea Princess and Southern Cross follow a different route to the sailing boats. As they are not dependant on the wind they offer a destination and normally cruise slowly along the Atlantic seaboard towards Clifton beach and then return.

A popular option with our Cruise and Dine lunch package, as well as many travel passes and Tour Operators. The weather option is a cruise into the International Harbour; when cruising the ocean is unpleasant, you will get a sailor’s view of our wonderful harbour with Table Mountain’s imposing presence still a thrilling factor. We live in the only city in the world with two oceans on it’s doorstep, the Atlantic and the Indian Oceans. Although the convergence of the Atlantic and Indian oceans is not at Cape Point but at Cape Agulhas, the South-Western Cape is affected by both the Agulhas and Benguela currents. The difference in sea temperature is responsible for a marvellous diversity of underwater life and scenery, so the Cape diver literally enjoys the best of both worlds.

FALSE BAY
During the winter months (May to August) the prevailing north-westerly offshore winds clean and flatten the Indian ocean. The water on this side of the bay is always a few degrees warmer than that of the Westernside of the peninsula and can reach as high as 18°C. The visibilty is usually between 8 - 12m, but can quite often be a spectacular 30m in winter.

HOUT BAY
The best time to dive this side of the coast is Summer, from September to April when strong south-easters blow offshore, causing upwelling of clear cold water.
The coast is a graveyard of shipwrecks, most of which met their fate during spectacular winter storms and many interesting wreck dives can be done from our boat. Kelp beds are dense and plentiful but take some getting used to. The reef life is spectacular, Hard and soft corals in shades of pink, bright purple, red and orange are set off by a background of yellow, blue, violet anemones.

Dive Action regularly runs dives on Sundays, with two boat launches being the norm, the first at 8.30am and the second at 11.00am. Please contact the Dive Action Dive Shop on +27 (0)21 511 0800 or by email at shop@diveaction.co.za to book a place on these dives.

Certified to carry either 12 divers or 12 passengers or adventure trippers, we cater for a range of charters from dive charters, photographic trips (above and below the surface), high speed adrenaline runs, sunset cruises as well as private site seeing tours.

We offer tourist charters along the coastline of the Cape Peninsula with launch points along the Atlantic side being Hout Bay and the Oceana Power Boat Club (V&A Waterfront) and from Millers Point on the False Bay coast. Popular trips are down to Cape Point where the Indian and the Atlantic oceans arguably meet as well as viewing the Dias & Da Gamma Padrao.
And its not only the spectacular views of the majestic Table Mountain range but also the variety of marine life that can be encountered such as whales, dolphins, seals, penguins and game fish.

CAPE POINT
One of our most popular boat charters is to Cape Point. We launch from Millers Point Slipway near Simonstown and take a nice cruise along the coastline to Cape Point. Here you get to experience and see the “Tip Of Africa” in a completely unique way as opposed to viewing it from land. Common sightings on these trips are pods of Dolphins which like to play in the bow wave of the boat.

You watch your line go tight and a second later the reel starts screaming as line is peeled off so fast you think it’s going to explode!! It’s time to clip in and enjoy the ride!! Cape Town and the nutrient rich waters off Cape Point offer some of the finest and most exciting Yellowfin tuna fishing in the world. For those of you that don’t know, the Yellowfin tuna (Thunnus Albacares ) is undoubtedly the strongest fighting fish in the tuna family. After leaving Hout Bay we will take you anywhere between 15 and 40 miles offshore in search of your dream fish. We will target Yellowfin and Longfin tuna but occasionally Bigeye tuna ( Thunnus Obesus ) and recently Southern Bluefin tuna ( Thunnus Maccoyii ) are also caught.

The Yellowfin tuna generally gather around the trawlers and longliners waiting for scraps to eat. We will use 3 methods to catch them, namely trolling, baiting and popping and spinning. Sizes range from 15kg to 90kg ( averaging around 45kg ) but every season a few fish over 100kg are caught.

Longfin tuna ( Thunnus Alalunga ) range from 5kg to 25kg ( averaging around 10kg ) and are great fun on light tackle, especially for youngsters. Dorado, Skipjack tuna, Mako sharks and Blue sharks are also caught. All sharks are released.

Dolphins, whales, Oceanic sunfish and many species of pelagic birds are also seen whilst travelling out to the tuna grounds. Occassionally there are sightings of killer whales off Cape Point.

We will fish until around 3pm depending on sea and fishing conditions and have you back in harbour by 5pm.

Snacks, lunch, coffee and drinks will be provided.

Cape Town offers us amazing yellowtail fishing off Cape Point and False Bay in the summer months and around the famous Robben Island in the winter months. (Robben Island is where our former president Nelson Mandela was imprisoned from 1964 onwards ). Using light tackle and spinning for yellowtail (Seriola Lalandi) offers action packed and exciting fishing for both youngsters and adults alike. Even though they are only 3kg to 6kg in size, yellowtail are exceptionally strong fighters for their size and once hooked will swim straight for the bottom to try “reef” you.

Whilst trolling for yellowtail can be successful at times, Bruce prefers stalking the fish and specialises in sightcasting for them with metal spinners and plastic surface lures. This is a much more exciting way of catching them and is very visual, often letting you watch the fish chase and grab the spinner or surface lure. Atlantic Bonito (Sarda sarda), Cape Snoek (Thyrsites atun) and what we call a Slender Tuna are sometimes also caught.

What’s also nice about this charter is that you get stunning views of Table Mountain and Cape Town from the sea whilst fishing at Robben Island. We also encounter whales, dolphins, penguins, Oceanic Sunfish and seals during this charter.

Duration of charter is 5-6 hours. Snacks and drinks will be provided.
